Basic Rules on Military Discounts

You should bear these things in mind:

  • The majority of benefits and discounts are extended to those who are currently serving in the military.
  • On notable military holidays, some of these perks might also be accessible to Veterans.
  • To claim military benefits, one usually needs to present valid identification like a retiree card or a Military ID Card.
  • Alternative proofs of identification, such as a state driver’s license with a Veterans designation, a VA health care card—alternatively, a Veterans Organization Card (e.g. VFW, DAV, American Legion) may also be acceptable, particularly on significant military holidays.
  • Military discount policies may vary depending on the location, as individual franchise owners often make the final decision.
  • It is wise to compare prices and consider different choices, as military discounts might not always be the most economical deal.
  • Some hotel chains could match the highest day rates applicable to your area; it’s advisable to inquire about this while making reservations.
  • Military discounts, while well-earned, are not a right; they’re offered as a mark of respect and gratitude. Please understand if a discount is not provided.

For those Veterans who have served in Afghanistan or Iraq, IAVA (Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America) offers vouchers for various retail stores, including JC Penney.
